Homemade Chocolate
Here’s a recipe that you wouldn’t expect in a weight loss diet plan but here it is.
Homemade Chocolate.
Why have we included it?
Because we believe the stress of not being able to eat a favorite or treat food such as chocolate is probably going to cancel out the small benefit in saving a few calories by not eating it.
Treat such delicacies as a treat and to consume them occasionally when justified.
Everyone loves chocolate so the occasional indulge, if you’re happy with the rest of your diet, is a good thing.
And to give you more control over chocolate, we’ve made this video of how to make it.
This simple method should be used as a template to give you ideas of how to make the chocolate of your liking.
Try different ingredients such as replacing full cream milk with either low fat milk or even soy milk.
One word of caution though, the further you deviate from the main ingredients, the less likely it will taste like authentic chocolate. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Experiment to find out what you like.
Ok, to make Samurai chocolate we need the following ingredients and items.
1kg or 2.2lbs of sweet chocolate. Any type of cooking chocolate will probably be ok.
1kg or 2.2lbs of macadamia nuts.
1 table spoon of vanilla essence.
1 table spoon of Almond essence.
150ml of full cream milk, 1 large plastic zip lock bag.
First thing we do is empty the sweet chocolate into the zip lock bag.
Next we want to take the macadamia nuts, which are in fairly big pieces at the moment, and break them down into smaller pieces. The easiest way is to attack the bag they come in with some kind of blunt implement and smash the nuts down into a smaller size.
Once you are happy with the nut size, place them in the zip lock bag with the chocolate.
If you like, you can put the nuts in with the chocolate after the chocolate has melted.
Next, we want to melt the chocolate, and the fastest and easiest way to do this is simply put it in the micro wave oven.
We want to completely melt the chocolate so it might take a couple of goes before you work out how long it takes your micro wave or any other device you want to use to do the job.
After the chocolate has melted sufficiently, give the bag of melted chocolate and nuts a good mix.
Then add 150mls of full cream milk (or the liquid/liquids of your choice)
Then add 1 table spoon of vanilla essence and 1 table spoon of Almond essence.
Then mix all ingredients in the bag.
Roll out the mixture while it’s still in the bag to a shape you’d like the final chocolate to be in. In our case, a large square about an inch or 2 cm in thickness.
Then put the bag in the freezer or fridge and let the chocolate become hard.
After the chocolate has become hard remove from the plastic bag. To keep this video moving along we’ve had to brutalize this bag but if you can remove the chocolate without destroying the bag then that’s much better.
Finally cut the chocolate into pieces of your choice.
Here we’re sprinkling cocoa over the chocolate for added flavor. Consider what you might like to add. Coconut, sultana’s, berries other varieties of nuts, etc. There’s endless choices with ingredients.
Enjoy in moderation or as a treat.
