Queensland International Business Academy or (QIBA) is a results-driven, nationally accredited English, Business and Computer studies academy for Australian and international students.
Since its establishment as a Registered Training Organisation in 1986, QIBA
has become widely recognised as a leader in the private education sector.

QIBA English Courses
All English courses are delivered in 6-week cycles, with one week holiday after
every 12 weeks. We do accept English students at any time, however, it is best to
enter a program at the start of a 6-week cycle.
General English (6/12/18/24/30/36/48 weeks)
This program is suitable for Elementary to Upper-Intermediate level learners, who
need language skills for international communication, employment and travel. The
program also prepares students for more specialised English programs such as:
English for Academic Study or English for Business Communication.
General English courses are offered in Intensive Mode (25 hours per week); Standard
Mode (20 hours per week) or Part-Time Mode (16 hours per week).
English for Business Communication (6/12/18 weeks)
This program prepares students for international employment or further business
studies. The course contains English Communication skills combined with subject
content from QIBA Business courses. Students mix with students and staff from
both English and Business faculties.
English for Business Communication courses are offered in Intensive Mode (25hours per week) or Standard Mode (20 hours per week).
High School Preparation (12/24/36/48 weeks)
This program prepares international students for entry into Year 10 or 11 of
Australian High Schools. Students become familiar with language and vocabulary
across the High School subject curriculum, while developing the necessary research
and study skills for survival in mainstream secondary education. QIBA programs
are linked with a number of private high schools on the Gold Coast.
English for High School Preparation courses are only offered in Intensive Mode
(25 hours per week).
UNIVERSITY PREPARATION
Over the past 15 years, Queensland International Business Academy has built a
reputation for excellence in the delivery of University Preparation programs to
international students. Our strong association with Southern Cross University as
well as our experience with off-shore English for Academic Study projects overseas
both guarantee the maintenance of high standards of language performance and
a smooth transition to western academic culture for all our students.
EAS/IELTS (6/12 weeks)
This course prepares students for the International English Language Testing System
(IELTS) examinations. It includes academic skill building in all macro skills (Listening,
Speaking, Reading, and Writing) as well as exam simulations. Students work with accredited IELTS examiners towards individual test target dates. IELTS Exams are
held each month at a local examination centre.
Other International Exam Preparation courses (such as Cambridge FCE, TOEFL or
TOEIC) are available at several times during the year. However, minimum numbers
apply, so check our website for more details (www.qiba.qld.edu.au).
EAS-English for Academic Study (6-48 weeks)
This program develops students’ academic language and study skills in preparation
for entry into Australian Colleges and Universities. Successful completion guaranteesdirect entry into Southern Cross University Bachelor Degrees.
EAS/Masters-Foundation (15 weeks)
This is a unique program for students who are preparing for Post-Graduate programs
at Southern Cross University’s Gold Coast campus. The course includes a core MBA
subject: MNG00720 Processes of Management. Successful completion guarantees direct entry and gives advanced standing in a variety of Southern Cross University
Masters Degrees in Business. Students who wish to enter this course must first
apply for a Post-graduate program at SCU’s International Office.
QIBA BUSINESS Courses
Queensland International Business Academy offers a number of Certificate and Diploma courses.
These are part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and therefore are recognised by all Australian Universities and Colleges for credit transfer purposes. The business subjects are part of an Australian National Curriculum and the
assessments are competency-based. This ensures that all graduates have the practical skills as well as the theoretical knowledge of business services.
The courses also ensure a focus on ‘best practice’, following international standards of quality management and professional service delivery.
The competency based training uses an ‘immersion model’ of English language acquisition and guarantees the attainment of practical skills in specified areas of employment. It also helps with the transition of many international learners from
‘rote-learning’ to ‘research and task-based’ learning in preparation for academic study.
Certificate IV in Business (18 weeks) develops a wide range of skills, which enables you to:
• meet the needs of modern multi-national industry
• access higher education
• gain a globally recognised qualification
The Certificate IV qualification provides domestic and international learners
with practical business skills and applications for a wide range of industries, while
at the same time preparing learners for the rigours of academic study and research.
It consists of 10 subjects studied over an 18 week period.
Entry requirements
Students must have a minimum of IELTS Band 5.5 (with no subscore less than 5.0)
or an approved equivalent level of English to enter a Certificate course. Students
must also have completed Year 11 Secondary School or relevant work experience.
Course structure
The Certificate IV and Diploma of Business course content is delivered
‘face-to-face’, in small group tutorials, by qualified and experienced staff. Students
develop ‘current competencies’ in all subject areas, reaching standards identified
by the Business Services Industry Training Advisory Body.
The course is divided into 6-week cycles and new students can join at the start of every six-week period. Students complete several units per course cycle. The
timetabled units change each 6-week course cycle until all units are completed.
Course content
Word processing and document design; Using knowledge management systems;
Researching information; Electronic presentations; Consumer behaviour; Marketing
and Promotion; Financial record keeping; Spreadsheets and databases.
Career opportunities
Our graduates have secured personally satisfying employment in Australia and
overseas or have gone on to Diploma level or Bachelor degree studies in the fields
of International Business, Multimedia, Accounting, Information Technology,
Marketing and Management.
Diploma to Degree program
The QIBA Diploma of Business is an accredited Vocational Education and training award which meets the needs of students who wish to enter Bachelor degree programs at University with one year advanced standing. This means that a 3 year degree course is reduced to only 2 years after completion of our Diploma.
The Diploma of Business (36 weeks) is a globally recognised qualification, which enables you to:
• competently manage modern business functions
• develop effective strategies in communication and the use of technology
• identify ways of improving business operations, systems and procedures
• accurately report on research and business opportunities
The key clients for this Diploma qualification are domestic and international students who need practical business skills and language preparation in order to qualify for access to Australian higher education in Business degrees.
The Diploma of Business is listed on CRICOS and used as a pathway to Southern
Cross University Bachelor degree programs. It is also a valuable tool in introducing
the AQTF to a range of nationalities.

Certificate IV in TESOL
Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
The Queensland International Business Academy (QIBA) in association with the Language Training Institute (LTI) is proud to offer the Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Teaching English is a rewarding and enjoyable activity which opens doors for employment, travel and friendship all over the world. The Certificate IV in TESOL is part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQTF) and, like all VET programs, it takes a competency-based approach to training which ensures that it is clearly focused on skills, knowledge and attributes necessary for teaching English internationally. The course includes a 20 hour teaching practicum, using English classes at QIBA. This Certificate IV in TESOL also recognises the developmental nature of acquiring new skills and has a degree of flexibility in the timeframe of assessments as well as with the practicum arrangements.
Course structure
The course is comprised of 12 compulsory Units of Competency and 2 electives. The total study time commitment is about 220 hours. This is broken down into the following components:
The face-to-face lecture content of 65 hours is delivered over 12 evenings and 6 Saturdays. The 20 hours of teaching practicum are scheduled during weekdays at the
convenience of participants and supervising teachers.
Entry requirements
Year 12 Secondary Education and full proficiency in English language. International students with a teaching background require IELTS Band 7.0 (no subscore under 6.5) to enter. However, as this course is delivered in part-time mode, only students on a Visitor or Working Holiday visa can enrol.
Overseas Projects
QIBA has a proud history of achievement in off-shore education consultancies and
projects, involving education ministries and agencies across a number of countries.
These include: Curriculum development and Teacher education in Malaysia, Japan,
New Caledonia and China.
QIBA currently delivers an English for Academic Study program for over 150
Chinese business students at TIANJIN University of Science and Technology near
Beijing, in preparation for Southern Cross University degree courses. Such off-shore
experience helps with the innovation of our local program development, course
content, methodology and development of our international e-learning capacity.
Group Study Tours
QIBA organises a wide range of study tour programs for schools, companies and
special interest groups. These can include all coach transfers, hotel accommodation
or homestay with Australian families and excursions to local attractions or
educational field trips. Some of our sister schools have been sending groups to
QIBA (every year) for over 16 years!
Group study tours can be arranged in the following categories:
High School students (e.g. to boost Listening and Speaking skills); University
students (e.g. with a marketing or management focus); Vocational Education (e.g.
English for retail, hospitality or kindergarten training) Silver Age clients; Teachers’

QIBA has significant experience with such Specific Purpose study tours and can
design individual courses to suit a variety of needs and budgets.
STUDENT SERVICES
Accommodation
QIBA employs a specialist homestay and accommodation coordinator who inspects every host family and their house. QIBA has built a comprehensive register of reliable local families over many years. Some of our families specialise in mature aged students and short stays, while other families prefer younger students and longer stays. Assistance is also available with temporary accommodation at ‘backpacker’ hostels or shared apartments with other students.
Counselling
Dedicated QIBA staff and qualified international counsellors are available for free confidential support with personal and cultural adjustment challenges when required. Expert staff also advise students on exam preparation and job seeking as well as career planning.
Social Activities
QIBA’s beachside location facilitates many ‘cost-free’ student social activities such as volleyball, surfing, swimming, fishing and beach-side barbeques. Students are also encouraged to join local sporting clubs such as soccer, tennis or golf.
Airport Reception
A QIBA representative welcomes students at either Brisbane or Coolangatta (Gold Coast) Airport on arrival and then transfers them directly to their accommodation
